APT Worldwide Licences Two Documentaries To NHK

Japan's Sole Public Broadcaster to Pick Up The Cure and Thirst

PRESS RELEASE

Boston, Mass. (February 17, 2005): U.S.-based distributor APT Worldwide has licensed the broadcast rights for two documentaries to Japanese public broadcaster NHK. The Cure (1x60)—which has also been acquired by Finnish broadcaster YLE—takes audiences on a quest to find a final solution to the problem of heart disease. Thirst (1x60) profiles the battle between local communities and global corporations for control of the world's water supplies.

The Cure examines a potentially revolutionary advancement in the treatment of heart disease. Once considered incurable, heart disease is still the number one killer in the industrialized world. The disease is quickly gaining a foothold in the Third World as well. The compelling documentary weaves together the small, seemingly unrelated stories from around the world whose common threads have led to the hope of stunning breakthroughs.

Thirst focuses on one of the 21st century's most important issues: the ownership of the world's drinking water. A front-line report from a developing social war, the documentary examines how communities in India, Bolivia and the United States are resisting the wholesale purchase of their most precious natural resource.
